Last night saw Hilary Clinton take Ohio (the bell weather state) which every president elect since 1945 has won on their road to the White House. Clinton won the state 56% to 42%. Cinton has now won all the big states in the race. However, Obama has won the majority of small states, as well as, reach out to constituencies that were traditionally seen as Clinton territory. The smaller states of Vermont and Rhode Island have been won by Obama and Clinton respectively. While Clinton is ahead in Texas, the second big state voting tonight, the complex voting system means that it could be some time before we have a definitive result. As things stand the Democratic race for the White House will continue for at least another fortnight. Meanwhile, Mcain has been nominated as the official Republican candidate. Either way US history is still marking its way towards an unprecedented first: oldest, female or Black President. Watch this space... |
