It is now 10 years since the fatal shooting of Mark Duggan which occurred in Tottenham on 4 August 2011. The death of Mark, 29, is intrinsically linked to the riots which erupted in London and the rise of similar riots in other major cities across the country. It would end as the largest wave of riots seen in the UK since the 1980s and the most prolonged and widespread in London since the 1780s.

Roma Holocaust Memorial Day is a day that cannot be forgotten. Once again, the victims of the harrowing genocide are being remembered. Between 2,897 and 4,300 people of Roma and Sinti origin were killed in Auschwitz-Birkenau’s ‘Zigeunerlager’ (gypsy camp). They were part of an estimated 500,000-1.5 million Roma and Sinti people that lost their lives during the Holocaust.

What is South Asian Heritage Month?

Over a cup of chai in 2018, the seeds for South Asian Heritage Month were sown with a clear goal in mind: to celebrate all things South Asian. Binita Kane, a Manchester-based physician, and Jasvir Singh, a prominent campaigner in the community co-founded, organised and launched the inaugural South Asian Heritage Month at the House of Commons in 2019. It was backed by founding patron, Anita Rami.
