Black Heritage Support Service | Moving from Protests To Action
After Grenfell, and most recently, the Windrush scandal, it's quite apparent that racism is very much alive in the UK and there is very little that our Government is doing about it. We therefore need to find our own way of breaking free from structural racism.
The Black Heritage Support Service aims to fill the gaps that exist in the black community. Research has evidenced that the high death rate in the black community as a result of contracting covid-19, is rooted in systemic racism. We have therefore sought to advocate and educate the community in-order to bring about pro-active change.
Our community is rich in skills and professionalism, we have seen that with the promotion of newly-created platforms encouraging 'Black Owned' ventures into entrepreneurship. The issue is that we are fragmented, particularly when it comes to health, wellbeing and career development.
We have created an educational hub led by certified black health professionals including doctors, dieticians, academics and psychotherapists. This is a virtual library of literature, videos and presentations. We want to provide people in the community with solution-focused information that will help them to improve the quality of their health and to progress in their careers.
Currently, we are also raising money for a support phone line manned by health professionals who can offer advice to those in our community who have experienced medical negligence.
An integral element to our achieving self-sustainability is collaboration. Without the community working together as a collective, we will never achieve true liberation, where the entire community has access to equality of resources and amenities. We must have the backing of our community leaders, politicians, young people, grass roots organisations and most importantly, the community itself.
