Press Release: Black Briton’s rejoice at Obama’s success

Barack Obama’s extraordinary journey to win the democratic nomination brings him one step closer to become first African American president, and with it the most powerful political position in the world.

Mr. Obama told supporters at a rally in St. Paul, Minnesota “Tonight, we mark the end of one historic journey with the beginning of another — a journey that will bring a new and better day to America. Because of you, tonight I can stand here and say that I will be the Democratic nominee for president of the United States of America.”

Simon Woolley, OBV’s Director, stated: "Many people across the world will be celebrating Obama’s brilliant success in beating Senator Hilary Clinton. Black Briton’s see his triumph as their triumph. There is, without a doubt, a Barack Obama generation here in the UK, who are ready to come out of the political shadows and play their role in high office. The political parties must wake up to their potential and remove the persistent obstacles that hold talent back."

Ashok Viswanathan, OBV’s Deputy Director, stated: "Barack Obama as President of the USA will positively change the world. He has demonstrated he is not a politician after your vote but one that seeks to win your heart and mind. He will now have to address race inequality whilst simultaneously reaching out to the whole of America."
