Parliamentary Shadowing Scheme 2010

The 2010 Parliamentary Shadowing Scheme sees thirty aspiring politicians taking part in the programme.

Since the MP scheme began in 1999, nine graduates have so far stood as Prospective Parliamentary Candidates, and this year OBV alumni member Helen Grant MP won the Conservative seat of Maidstone and the Weald.

The scheme is in partnership with the Department for Communities and Local Government.  It aims to help place more BME politicians within our elected chambers.

The 2010 scheme was launched in the House of Commons where Parliamentarians gave their support to the programme and the participants (shadows).

Speakers were: Andrew Stunell MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, CLG; Rt. Hon Simon Hughes MP, Deputy Leader, Liberal Democrats, Andrew Stephenson MP; Lord Herman Ouseley, Crossbench; Rt. Hon. Sadiq Khan MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, and Baroness Scott, President Liberal Democrats.
