Operation Black Vote and the Humanity Project are working in partnership to build a new civic culture within Black and Asian communities: one rooted in deep listening, shared leadership and people powered democracy.
Together we are pioneering a new model of community decision making through a fast growing network of Popular Assemblies across the UK.
This partnership represents a deliberate shift. We are fusing OBV’s long standing mission of political empowerment with the Humanity Project’s expertise in deliberative democracy to create a national civic infrastructure designed by and for our communities.
At a time when public trust in politics is at historic lows and racial inequality is rising across housing, health, education and policing, our communities deserve democratic spaces that are accountable to us, not Westminster.
In this spirit, we are launching Brixton’s first Black People’s Assembly.
This Assembly will focus on the cost of living crisis, recognising its disproportionate impact on Black and Asian families and the urgent need for community led solutions.
The Assembly will take place on Saturday 31 January 2026 at 12:30 pm.
Facilitators for the Assembly will be drawn from participants in the two accredited trainings below.
You are warmly invited to join us:
1. Accredited Listening Skills for People’s Assemblies
2. Accredited Facilitation Skills for People’s Assemblies
Delivered by Moussa Amine Sylla (Lead Trainer) with contributions from Lee Jasper on race, equality and accountability.
Participants will develop the skills to:
• Create inclusive and culturally grounded participation spaces
• Facilitate structured small group deliberations
• Apply tools used across national People’s Assemblies
• Build shared understanding across diverse experiences
• Navigate low level conflict and challenging dynamics
These trainings form part of a wider national programme.
Across 2025 we have delivered over twenty assemblies, with a further twenty planned for 2026 as we build the civic networks required for large scale mobilisation ahead of the 2028 general election.
