From Listening to Action: Building Community-Led Governance for Race Equality
Building on the findings of the first Sheffield People's Assembly on Race Equality, this second Assembly is the next phase of a growing community-led movement — addressing systemic race inequality through participation, accountability, and collective action. Developed through the partnership between Operation Black Vote, The Humanity Project, and civic partners in Sheffield, led by Ellesmere Children's Centre.
The Assembly brings Sheffield together to deliberate on priorities for the next 6–18 months — exploring accountability, partnership, and long-term governance.
A sustainable model of deliberative democracy rooted in lived experience and community leadership.
A key ambition emerging from this work is the development of a Sheffield Race Equality Community Assembly Council — an independent, community-led structure designed to monitor progress, coordinate alliances, sustain participation, and strengthen accountability across the city.
Before Phase Two, read the findings from the first Sheffield People's Assembly on Race Equality — what participants said, what the community prioritised, and what needs to change.
